The Nation of Migration Party will adopt a long-term approach when implementing our ‘assess, act and accept’ migration levels. Australia operates in a global economy with an increasing number of skilled and other workers wishing to migrate to Australia. Moreover, the party wishes to continue to work hard to prevent the illegality of talented Australian employees offshore and develop systems that ensure the best skilled workers who can contribute to national economic development are selected.
The Nation of Migration Party is committed to using Australia’s migration program as an important part of the policy response to this challenge.
1. The Nation of Migration party understands that migration will play an important role in delivering sustainable economic growth. Nation of Migration recognizes that migrants:
· Provide stability, effectiveness to the Australian workplace environment
· Has a great say in Australia’s long term future as a developed and world class economy
2. Moreover, the Nation of Migration will review the Migration Act 1958 and in accordance:
· Encourage an appreciated balance between independent government-sponsored and employment sponsored migration
· Ensure that non-sponsored skilled migration is targeted on skills in critical need in the economy
· Provide information, including on workplace rights and responsibilities, for skilled permanent migrants and their families to welcome them into the Australian community.
3. Furthermore, the Nation of Migration Party, as part of the ‘Assess, Act and Accept’ to act, rather than talk, and make a commitment to the Australian people to act swiftly and get the job done. In accordance with the Migration Act 1958:
· Tackle illegal boat arrivals and ‘send’ boats where safe to do so.
· Have a goal to process offshore special humanitarian visa applicants, over illegal boat arrivals.
· Establish supposition against refugee status for people who arrive on boats without Visas or anyway of identity.
· Establish a mandatory 5 year jail sentences for people smugglers or violators of human rights
· Ensure a refugee places are reserved for the most vulnerable refugees, in particular women at risk of violence and harm.
4. The Nation of Migration Party aims to treat refugees with humanity whilst also cracking down on illegal arrivals:
• We will close down the worst remote Australian detention centres saving $366 million.
• We will establish 60-day time limits on detention of refugees in Australia.
• We will ensure that refugees can live in the community as soon as possible, with full work rights for those on bridging visas so they can support themselves, and fair social support if they cannot work.
5. The Nation of Migration Party believes children and women should never be in detention. Imprisoning them in detention is a violation of their rights.
· For years, governments have been locking children up in detention where they are witnessing serious trauma, self-harm and despair, and often experiencing these things themselves.
· The Nation of Migration Party aims to support the rights of the child and proposing an approach in which no child grows up behind bars or fences.
6. The Nation of Migration Party aims to ensure that the definition of ‘Migration’ encapsulates all processing of refugees and migrants in accordance with the Migration Act 1958 (Cth). The Party, therefore, believes that considering the above points, Australia needs to accept the importance of refugees and migrants to it’s history, society and economy. However, it also needs to accept that entering illegally is unacceptable and goes against the values of a country where everyone gets a ‘fair go’. It also needs to accept that violating the rights of refugees, particularly women and children, is wrong and no one should have to face that.
Therefore, the Nation of Migration Party wants to work with the governments, both state and federal, and ensure that they ‘Assess, Act and Accept’ migration in Australia and create a greater future for all people.
