Tomis' Story
Migration is a topic that Australians are divided about. I have my own beliefs, so someone else might think something different as well. Migration to me is something that i think is good, but only if done under certain circumstances. Something i want to strive for in the community of people in Australia and the world is Equality. Im going to reflect on migration and my families history.
25 years before i was born my Father and his family moved from Europe to Australia. My grandfather wanted something more in life, and wanted a reliable future and way of life for his children. Europe wasn’t an easy place to achieve this so he decided on Australia. My Mother’s Father wanted a change so they came to Australia without any family here or connections to help them settle down, yet they were still able to.
Growing up in Australia I think has allowed me to grow to my personal full potential, i may know things that i wouldn’t have known if i was born in Europe and my lifestyle, education and living standards might be different.
Australia does a great job at providing opportunities, work can be found and there are higher levels and standards of education as well as higher workplaces, such as education, business, finance , insurance , law and marketing. There’s something for everyone. With Australia’s multicultural pool i don’t think it’s easy to feel left out.
However Australia has had bad history with illegal immigration, which i’m against.
Even though i feel sorry for refugees desperate enough to boat from other parts of the asian region to Australia. It is not legal. It’s definitely not fair to someone who has applied for a visa and is waiting for approval, and they decide to boat. It could be considered line jumping. Refugee camps that are provided for boat travellers are in disgusting conditions and these people who risked their lives should not be put into these centres.
In conclusion i personally am all for migration if done legally and they wait acceptance into the country because it isn’t fair to those people who are doing the right thing. Australia should maybe aim to accept more refugees quicker as it is a great place that can change people’s lives for the better as it did for me and my parents .
